She needed comfort
She needed to center her soul.
Language had left her in the coves
the wordless sound had echoed inside
her chest, seduced her to shore.
I will be participating in Marit's 'Found Poetry' Fridays
where poems or poem fragments are located in altered books,
headlines, or any text that can be altered into poesis.
Marit's blog is: maritspaperworld.com/blog .
My post today is from an altered book I made from
the novel The Mermaids Singing by Lisa Carey.
It is a sort of dark, brooding narrative which I like to
indulge in from time to time. After reading it,
I decided to alter the pages. Here is the note
I left myself inside the book:
Every altered book finds its own rhythm and
inner connections. I'm always surprised to
find that the book itself wants what it wants.
I chose this one as it is (was) a novel and
I thought it would lend itself more easily to
found poetry, and that the story itself would
disappear. But the mermaids kept showing
up over and over again. The found fragments
are often dark and Neptunian.

I love that the mermaid keeps appearing in your poenm/altered book, Marie. Not many see them or believe in them but you have one that has a lot to say!
