I have an ever growing collection of hand cut stencils
that I've made and used in lots of acrylic paintings. I usually
cut them to the size of the substrate that I'm using.
Last week I was experimenting with the stencils using
oil and wax. It's trickier than with acrylic as the paint
needs to dry up a bit to get a good stencil without smearing.
My solution was working on several pieces at a time.
The above piece I call Mermaid Music.
I used lots of layers on this one, Busy Jazz.
More blue layers, Under The Sea of Mind.
This is one of the stencils I cut.

Do you know of any artists that use stencils with oil? It sounds rather difficult to me. Mermaid Music is my favourite...... the colours make me want to dance!
and even your stencils are wonderful art pieces...
Carole, Judy Wise teaches using stencils in her oil/wax class, so I'm thinking lots of folks are using them. The underlayer needs to be a bit dry so it takes time. Thanks for your nice comment!
Thanks Cat!
Thanks, Maria. I'll check our Judy Wise's info.
