I made a series of sewn collages some years ago and they've been put away
in a box which I rediscovered while cleaning the studio. I wanted to bring
them out and put them in a form where they could be displayed so I bound them
into a book. There are 36 pages/collages each having a bit of original ephemera
and a face printed on vellum paper. Below are photos of a few; it is difficult
to take pictures of text.
This is a full spread view.
One of my favorites! The Hershey's box cover is from the 40's!
The face is from a portrait I made of my Grandpa Garcia who
I never had the privilege of knowing, as he passed years before I was
born. I always longed for a grandfather, but why I juxtaposed his face
with chocolate is a mystery to me. Perhaps I imagined his cupboards
filled with special surprises!
Remember tanning lights! Paired with Audrey Hepburn!
This is a very old Weber oil paint box. The girl's face is from clip art
that I digitally painted.

Hi Marie. These are remarkable for their history and simplicity. Great idea to bind them together. Has the book binding itch caught hold of you? Are you planning to do more with other earlier works?
I hope you are enjoying July and the summer weather.
Your creative paths continue to amaze me. This is a fabulous idea. Thank you.
Thanks so much Carole and James! Binding works on paper is so much better than keeping them in boxes or drawers!
Love the nostalgic feel of these. Fabulous to bind them and have them in a compiled work where they are available to enjoy and to be admired, Marie.
Thanks so much for the nice comment Sylvia!
You blow me away.............do you sleep??? Just kidding...I wish I could be as productive as you are now....beautiful! Mary Helen Fernandez Stewart
