Abstract Calligraphy: Exploring Miro

I've been experimenting with pen and ink
drawn over oil/wax backgrounds.
Miro's abstract calligraphy is fascinating to me
and so I tried to copy it to see it more clearly,
experience it more fully.
 I think his calligraphic drawings
exemplify what artists can do with letter like forms,
making compositions with them in a range of
rhythm and movement both complex and rich
while at the same time using a script of
instinctive familiarity.

"The repertory of shapes which Miro uses
is coherent, as if it were alphabet, with
many angles, right and acute, wide loops,
heavy blobs, occasional round loops."
                                                        Nicolete Gray

Here I copied the entire page of Miro's A la sante du Serpent
but not in the exact order so that it would
fit the long canvas

I am hoping to eventually develop my own personal letter like forms
but I am many experiments away from achieving that.
The above piece is a hand drawn quote I made
from Emily Dickinson's poetry  that I found
on Leslie Avon Miller's blog, Textures Shapes Color.
"And I am out with lanterns
looking for myself."
