Imaginary Landscapes

A Spirit of Magic Inside the Mundane

Late last year, I began what I called a "nature" series
on 9 16x18 wood panels. What it has ended up being
is a series of imaginary landscapes.
These are my latest addition. The first photo
is a detail of  "A spirit...."
I based the painting on a photo I took of an ordinary and
brownish snow bank on the side of  the studio
that grew progressively higher with each snow storm.
I had the idea for the painting on my desk for months now
and had not found the time to start it for one reason or another.
I find I need to intensely focus on this work
and finish  a piece within a day or two or I lose
the direction of where it wants to go.
This takes so much concentrated energy and I am always
 super exhausted after finishing one!

Don Quixote Rides Again
This was on an easel for months and I liked it
but it did not feel finished to me. The composition
needed balance and I just could not find it
until this morning, adding a few dark marks
on the right side.
I am satisfied with this version.

OK, I'm going to have a rest now!
