This is my latest collage painting: "The Journey As Myth". It is a 20 inch square with inks, gesso, book pages, and vintage magazine images. There are detail photos below, along with Rilke's poem "Sense of Something Coming". The poem has a dramatic flair intimating a brewing storm which I also feel in the collage. The journey as myth carries us into both bouts of weather and clear skies. It is the journey as process that matters and not the destination, if even known.
Even if we travel with partners or a clan, the journey remains a personal experience.

I am like a flag in the center of open space.
I sense ahead the wind which is coming, and must live
it through,

while the things of the world still do not move:
the doors still close softly, and the chimneys are full
of silence,
the windows do not rattle yet, and the dust sill lies down.

I already know the storm, and I am troubled as the sea.
I leap out, and fall back,
and throw myself out, and am absolutely alone
in the great storm.

Your words ring so true: "Even if we travel with partners or clan, the journey remains a personal experience." Rilke's poem is beautiful AND this collage the same. Wonderful, a crowd in movement but in shadow ...lovley!
OMG Marie - every single one of your recent collages is better than the last one. This IS your medium. I'm fascinated by what you are doing. Need to come see them all in person!
so true.. our journeys are personal and unique.. and your collage carries that message.
