I wrote about Dora Maar in my Jan. 13 post. She was one of the women that lived with Picasso and was an established photographer and painter during her life time. I have continued to be captivated by her story and the photos in the book Picasso's Weeping Woman by Mary Ann Caws. The above is the second portrait in a series I hope to do of her. She died a recluse in Paris at the age of 87.
"If you are too intellectual, you will antagonize others. If you are too emotional you will lose yourself. If you push too much for your own way, you will feel uncomfortable. How difficult it is to live in the world of people. Yet, there is no place where we can escape." Soseki Natsume
Dora Maar did not write the above quote, but I think she probably would have agreed with the sentiment. It certainly resonates with me of late as I continue to try to communicate something of my work and to contribute to the ongoing dialogue of art in the blogging community. One can only learn from mistakes, learn from others, and go forward.

really nice piece Marie! did you get some snow today? #14 for us today!
Well said. We can only go forward, and in good faith, at that. To abandon that path leads to isolation--and probably madness.
We create, and we continue....
I'm glad I discovered your blog!
What a beautiful painting!
