Temple Grandin: Her Life In Pictures

I am continually amazed at the synchronisity of the creative process.
I began this collage with the intention of finding something relevant to present, something meaningful, something worthwhile. I have been working with text for my collage backgrounds and had reached a point where I did not know if I could add anything new to this technique.
I laid down the text background, had lunch and then a nap. No inspiration seemed to be forthcoming so I just began to stencil in some shapes and add some color when voila, a perfect cow shape. (Mid left of the piece, purple shape.) I finished it with an image of a young girl layered in text.
Last night I watched the HBO biography of Temple Grandin. She is an autistic woman who overcame many challenges to eventually become a professor at Colorado State University as an animal science expert. The way she experiences her life is like a series of snap shots/photos of which she has a perfect and vivid recollection. Although she cannot communicate on a sociological/emotional level with people, she has an uncanny ability to sense what frightens and comforts animals. Much of her work has been dedicated to implementing more humane conditions for cattle.
I thought the movie was superb, and the feelings it inspired stayed with me all day. This collage was the outcome and it has had a very meaningful/ humbling affect upon me.

I see the purple cow. What a great tie in to the story about Temple Grandin. I didn't see but hope to one of these days. Thanks Marie.
