This is the 4by6ft canvass I am about to begin. It is for a gallery show for which I have been asked to join. Wish me luck Pilgrims! It has been years since I have worked with dimensions that large. I have an idea I want to explore, but for the moment, it seems beyond my capacity! The gallery is in my home town, so beyond the usual trepidations there is lots of emotion & desire to do exceptionally well and the humble will to give thanks to the place where I was raised.

I have spent a good deal of time just meditating on where to go with this new project. This dream catcher in my window, a gift from my friend Arleen, helps a lot.

I have been perusing all of my recent work & taken lots of group pictures. This is a collage of my personal alphabet series. Gathering my work about me in the studio is both instructive and humbling. I detect progress and giving in to what always feels safe.

I feel at home in my dwelling. It is a gift beyond measure.

One thing I have learned since I have begun my blog is that ideas and outcomes are worlds apart! I had the idea to create a series of "chalk board" paintings, all with an "old school" theme. If this first attempt is any indication, I need to abort this effort in the bud! This is a poor photo but still! I think I need to learn when to let go of a good intention and go with whatever else is calling me, and right now that is the bigger challenge of a big painting into the unknown.

I do wish you luck with your big painting! I am sure you will do something fabulous, as you are a fabulous artist! Synchronicity - I have a chalk board series in mind too – abstract and having more to do with the colors. I read the original Dick Jane Sally books in first and second grade. I remember how proud I felt when I learned to read the great big words “grandmother” and “grandfather”. Did you read the same books?
As I usually work on very small pieces, I feel your hesitancy to work so big. But taking acceptable risks is what life is all about! Good luck!
