Every month I make an "Intention Collage" as a prompt to remind me to focus on where I want to go with my work. Thanks to Alex Grey, this month it is The Art of Good Will which he says"sensitizes its audience with a longing for justice, wisdom and healing compassion". "Conscience must arise from within and become alloyed with creative action. Artists must inquire of themselves, " "What will be my work?" ". These are quotes from his book 'The Mission of Art'. His directive is large and difficult and yet to begin to search for a deeper soul vision widens my perspective and reinvigorates what I think might be possible for me.

Abstraction has opened up an avenue into my inner self where I can simply surrender to the flow of color and the pure wonders of shadow and texture. This requires surrender and faith; right brain leads and left brain follows; a flexible holistic exercise.

This is a detail of my 6ft. canvass project. It has texture and color galore, drippy and interestingly layered places. I like it as a (huge) background piece but it is somewhat overwhelming and overflowing without a focal point, no in or out. The next puzzle is how to contain it.

I took a photo & altered it with Paint Shop Pro's collage function.

Then I tried the "colored foil effect" after incorporating a cross form into it & splitting it into a diptych. I think I will aim for this "look". There is a lot of personal symbolism embedded in the texture and hopefully it will all translate into an art work of "good will."
