Dipping Back Into Acrylics

The Ancestors
I had started this painting months ago and finally finished it yesterday.
It is on an 20 by 24 inch wood panel and painted with alcohol inks and liquid acrylic.
It was interesting getting back to the rhythm of the process that I have used for so many years
after my foray into oil and wax.  There are things I like about each medium, but I have to say
that after comparing the two, the oil pieces have much more luminosity.
On the other hand, the acrylics and inks have more depth and free flowing movement.
I think I will continue to work, (and play) in both as they each add a dimension
to the learning curve.

I like the colour and mood in this piece, Marie.

Hello Marie! Lovely to see all you oil and wax works but also interesting to hear you are back into the rhythm of acrylics. I wonder what each medium will add to the other? I wonder how you will know which one to work in or if you'll wake up each morning just knowing.
I love encaustic work but can't tolerate the fumes. Sigh. Have a great week. xo Carole

Thanks Sylvia!

Hi Carole! Good questions you raise!
The mark making I've done in oil and wax is definitely affecting what I do in acrylics. It is hard to put into words, since it is mostly intuitive. My hands seem to know what to do though! I'm thinking that I will do acrylics when I need a break from the more "step" oriented oil compositions.
There are lots of steps involved.
The oil and wax isn't like the heated encaustic work which also requires a fan, etc. I don't think I will go there!

Mary Helen...I've found that the alcohol inks create some interesting textures, that I then go over with the liquid acrylic glazing.
