Fridays are estate sale-ing days for me.
I have things I collect like vintage yard sticks and rulers,
antique ledgers and journals, old photos and vintage clip boards
like the above. I like to add abstract collages to them and find
that they make great "framing" and easy hanging for the pieces.
Last Friday I found this whatchamacallit gizmo
and bought it for a buck. Who knows why certain things
resonate with anyone! I just liked the shape of it, the old wood,
the broom handle nailed to the bottom and the old leather
belt attached at the top. I brought it home and promptly
made a map collage on it. One of the map pieces I used
is of old mining camp territory in Colorado. The image
is the passport photo of my husband's grandfather
who immigrated to the US from Italy and became a miner
in the Tioga Mines in Huerfano County.
Every art piece has a story! I can only wonder at the history
of where the gizmo originated, who made it and for what purpose?!
