Backgrounds

It's always hard to get back to work in the studio
after being away awhile. Today I had a busy day
prepping canvas with gesso and cutting up my stash
of cereal boxes for a re-cycled book project that I'm
thinking about.  I don't have any new work to show.
My work area is always covered in experiments
with backgrounds. The above is one of those
with a little help from a shadow in the photo!

This is waxed paper blottings of gesso and paint.

Experiment with layering over a photo image.
Very dream like I think.

This is a little 5by7 canvas. I used lots of  gesso
and dyes, alcohol inks and fluid acrylics.
It's another in the map series that I call "Islands".
I am hoping to get back into the swing of "making" again
this week. Wish you all the same.

Thanks Mary Helen! Experimenting is always fun whether it's "good" or not!

You make the most interesting background Marie!

Yes, Marie is the backgrounds queen for sure! I love seeing them and love making them myself. My problem is that I never move beyond just making backgrounds. Some of them I like so well I don't want to cover them up. It's a problem.
