Once Upon A Colorado Gothic: The Map As Narrative
I'm getting back into my map making series. This is number 6 of the
twelve I hope to make. It is an interesting piece I think,
filled with layers of both collage and meaning. I used images that
are personal to me but are not
literal personal history. ( Homage to Grant Wood
for his now iconic "American Gothic"!)
The maps are from a CO atlas. I enjoyed where the trail
are personal to me but are not
literal personal history. ( Homage to Grant Wood
for his now iconic "American Gothic"!)
The maps are from a CO atlas. I enjoyed where the trail
took me from my Southern Colorado roots to where I live now in Larkspur,
known for its annual Renaissance Festival.
After a time away from the studio, I'm looking forward to working
"hands on" again after all my digital art posts.

I love this unique portrait of your family and map!!! Wonderful! Peace, Mary Helen Fernandez Stewart
What a FANTASTIC collage Marie! This is exactly the sort of thing I'd like to do with my own mapping project, but just don't have the creative ideas you do. Can't wait to see this in person on Sat. - and to see YOU, and play art again.
Marie, you would love the 1956 (the year I was born) softcover government printed book of maps I bought yesterday at Value Village. I am going to use it as a personal history/map by adding some lino prints and drawings.
Love your map making series. Enjoy the hands on!
Thanks Mary Helen! Peace to you!
Glad you liked this Paula! It just sort of came together after I stopped trying for a "literal" map!
Oh Carole, I'm sure I'd love your map book, and your b-day year makes it more personal. How cool is that?!
