One thing always leads to another.
While walking to my studio this month, I began
seeing the ice crystals in the pavement and the driveway.
Then I started noticing the interesting shapes and colors
inside of snow banks. Then I started taking pictures.
I made 8.5 by 11 prints of the photos
and noticed that they resembled maps which fit
quite nicely into the map making series I've been working on.
I thought I would use them for ideas for map paintings.
But after I had a stack of the prints I began to wonder
what else I could do with this ever growing collection.
So I decided to paint on the printed photo paper
to see if I could enhance the image. The above
is the painted image; below is the original.
Pavement And Corner Of Driveway
"Shores Of Promise"
More Pavement
"Weather Map In Oz"
Snowbank
I used alcohol inks and fluid acrylics to paint
the printed photos. Before I began, I sprayed
the print with a matte acrylic finish to keep the inks
from the print from bleeding into the paint.
