Portrait: Colorado Native
Canvas Board 16x14, acrylics, CO atlas
State of the Art
14x14 paper, acrylics, paint pens
The art map above was not an easy project.
First of all, I brain stormed all the terms, biases and stereotypes
I could think of and then realized the many unresolved feelings
I have toward mainstream art!
There are so many sensible reasons not to do art
if your primary goal is to "get somewhere"!
Fortunately, there are many rewards
in finding your own artistic path, your own niche.
The territory of art making is vast
and there is room for every interpretation.
I scanned both of the images in this post
and the text is not clear.Click on the image

We seem to post at the same moment...I love working with maps and layering the compositions on top.
I love having room for interpretation... you are allowing the viewer to embrace their own story. have a great week!!! Peace, Mary Helen Fernandez Stewart
Marie, Colorado Native is an amazing example of your talent to bravely mix mediums. To map one's face is a process I haven't seen before. I LOVE it!
Thanks so much Mary Helen! I enjoyed visiting your blog!
Carole, I really appreciate your comment! Enjoyed making this piece.
These are stupendous, Marie. Seriously! The way you mapped the blue lady's face adds so very much more depth and interest than the original portrait had. And State of the Art is even more amazing! I want to look at these and study them very very closely and at length. I can see there is a LOT of important things in both of these that I can't read from these copies. I am working on my own map works, but they are so amateur - yours put me to shame. These - and you - inspire me immensely.
