"Marking Down"
I have not been very creatively productive
in the studio lately, but I have been busy
nevertheless.
"Taking Stock"
I've been spending lots of time
going through the pieces that have not
been placed over the past year.
I am not ready to let go of some
that I like, even though I realize
they will not meet the test of time
and/or fickle attachment.
Some things I had a great deal of fun making.
Some got me through difficult times.
Art has so many purposes,
so many reasons for being.
Some have a life of their own.
"Some things just want to be made."
And some things have their time
and place,
really do not mind being repurposed,
gessoed over,
and stacked in a corner
awaiting another go,
whether a magical transformation,
or merely playful experimentation.
Life and death goes on here,
ups and downs,
beauty and its negation,
the longing to manifest
something soulful
always beginning again.

I agree. I work mostly on paper because I love it and on the practical side...easy for storage. Still ever so often, work needs to be tossed or torn up. Good luck with the gesso!
I agree that some things have there time and place and when they are done gesso is the way to go!
Always a good idea to 'take inventory'. You have a great way of looking at this process and its outcome.
Blue Sky, You're right. I have lots of works on paper that do not create the storage problems of canvas.
Carole, I always say gesso is my favorite medium!
Thanks Seth! Letting some things go is a long ongoing lesson, but gets easier the more I do it.
