The Architect

My newest collage, "The Architect" has gone through many incarnations on the 20by24 inch board. I've been working on it off and on for three weeks, I seem to be leaning toward building up layers on a grid background. I used pages from a 1931 issue of "The Architect" magazine, Life magazine image, gesso, soft pastels, acrylic and alcohol inks. My sister has given me some great ideas for framing this piece & I look forward to hanging it.

Close up details....the faded pages and textures are a little more apparent.

Wow, Marie, I can't believe this is the same painting I saw 3 weeks ago. There is nothing similar at ALL about the two pieces. Even though you've used the standard grid pattern that you use so frequently, this piece looks and FEELS very different to me than any of your others. I really can't see the texture much at all, which would make a huge difference in the dimensionality of the piece. But the more I study it, the more I can really walk into the piece and peek around the corners and edges of the "walls." It really does look like apartment walls standing after a demolition. It's very cool in that way.

The blues and (especially) greens are somewhat of a new palette for you, but it absolutely works. Especially those blues! I really love the upper left part of the painting. That part especially feels like walls that are leading me somewhere down a deserted street, or into another world. Can't wait to see it in person.
