"With me, a picture is a sum of destructions. I make a picture, and proceed to destroy it.
but in the end nothing is lost; the red I have removed from one part shows up in another."
Pablo Picasso
I began this collage with a bunch of leftover palette blotting paper which when I glued down dried all wavy. Sometimes I like that effect. Not this time. I had a perfect composition of chaos, a mess of unordered dibs and dabs.

I took a photo of it and then altered it with a swirl function, looking for a clue where to go next.
Then I thought I would just start over.

Gesso is a wonderful thing!
Add more gesso.
Go out of the lines, live a little. The finished painting is a 3 ft. square.
I titled it "A Sum Of Destructions".
"When one begins a picture one often discovers fine things. One ought to beware of these, destroy one's pictures, recreate it many times. On each destruction of a beautiful find, the artist does not surpress it, to tell the truth; rather he transforms it, condenses it, makes it more substantial. The issue is the result of rejected discoveries." Piccasso

Hi Marie, Didn't this one take you on a journey, but I love where it has gone!
Success arrives in the most convoluted ways. I like the end result.
It is so interesting to see where this started, where it ended, and all the steps in between!
oh how nice to see where you were going! I am afraid you would have been quite lost if I had done this with my latest swap piece with Kim!!! so glad you clued us in and l really love the end result!!
