Remembering Dad

Willie

My dad has been gone for ten years now, his young smiling face sits across from me whenever I am at my computer. I always tell him how my days are going and somehow feel better for it.
Thought I'd share some details of painting I've made of him and also a poem which reveals his story. I always think of him young and handsome and free from all pain and worry.

Young Dad With Barbara

Portrait With Fedora
Huerfano
Here is childhood's end.
This is the story of your heart.
Dear orphaned boy,
one darkening photo
reveals the tragic plot.
David Copperfield had nothing on you kid.
I want to rescue you in paint,
warm you with color,
hold with you the unbearable terror
of being too early alone.
I want to bring you home,
but it is impossible.
Reading your life backwards,
would any companion suffice?
Who would ever return your innocence?
How would you ever trust again?
Orphan heart,
This is your story.
I remember.
I'll tell it for you.

Marie, this is a stunning tribute! I love the paintings and your poem is so well done. You have called us into empathy with your dad and honored his memory. He would be so proud....
