Sante Fe Bound

I am working on a portrait of the ceramic artist Beatrice Wood as a young girl. The above is an altered photo of the painting. I am still working on the painting, but need a little help from my Paint Shop Pro Friend!

This is a photo of Beatrice at 15. Her biography reads like a wonderful novel. James Cameron, the director of "Titanic" used her life to "craft an identity for Rose, his one hundred-year-old survivor in the film" She died on her 105th birthday after a life filled to the brim with vitality and creativity, much like the "gilded vessels" she made.

I highly recommend this biography. The photos of her work are stunning. Anais Nin, a friend of Beatrice said this about her friend's work:
"Beatrice wood combines her colors like a painter, makes them vibrate like a musician. They have the rhythm and luster both of jewels and human eyes. Water poured from one of her jars will taste like wine."

I am off for a week in Sante Fe with my five sisters. We are celebrating my 60th and my youngest sister's 50th birthdays. Can't wait to get on the road!
