On Saturday I had two art friends (Paula Hagar & Kristie LaRose) over for an art play day. We worked on personal art maps, munched on cheese & crackers & fruit, had lots of art talk. All in all, a really fun day. I am very interested in pursuing the map theme further and would like to make a series of maps showing art direction, where I've been, where I still want to go, etc.
For this piece I wanted a textured "relief" looking map of my roots to the meandering paths where life has led me. (Click on image for a detailed close up.)

After I finished the piece I use wax to bind it all. I used lots of reds unconsciously & later realized it was probably the prompt of the name "Colorado" which is the Spanish for 'red'.

I used a small montage of personal photos for the place of my birth: a picture of me and three of my sisters with my grandmother, my grandfather's eye and a painting of my grandmother at 13.
Hope everyone has a great art week!
