I am banished from the studio today as a new furnace is being installed, a greener version that will supposedly insulate better & keep the bitter winter out. I have not much work to show for the week. I worked some on the "big" painting but am still unsure whether or not I want to let it be or (gasp!) gesso it over & start anew. Thus the Socrates quote!
I did make a bunch of ATC's (Artist Trading Cards, 2.5 by 3.5) for the monthly trade that I have been attending since '03. Lately my steam for this medium has been lacking but I always enjoy meeting up with the artists that I have come to know and appreciate over the years. We all have made hundreds and hundreds of cards and trade to our hearts content. There is always a optional theme challenge for the month, some more challenging than others. For June we are doing a "play on words". While providing lots of Chuck L's, it didn't feel very artsy to me. I'm looking forward to what the others have come up with.
This is one of my favorite cards I've made. I painted the couple that Diane Arbus photographed & then did some digital altering. I think I retained the adolescent self consciousness of the photo and gave it a new twist as well.
I have been working on a series of Modigliani ladies over the years & have enjoyed painting every one.
I cleaned the studio yesterday. I'm always trying to simplify & make the space more work friendly. Now that I am working on bigger canvass I've had to put away lots of stuff. It is still not where I want it to be, I will need a giant garage sale for that! This is a photo from last year when I had a gallery wall going. I enjoyed it up for awhile until it began to feel too busy. I thought I'd post it with a nod toward Seth & his walls of inspiration challenge that I spoke of in the last post.Hope everyone has a fun week end!

I have noticed that with the bigger work I have to clear out space as well. But I like the big space to paint on. I gessoed one over today, and stoped just short of covering the whole thing. I'm looking forward to getting out there and working on it again tomorrow. Thanks for the peek at your work over time.
