These are my final two panels from the cold wax class. I will miss the energy and enthusiasm of the participants, and of course the generous teaching of Judy Wise. As for the cold wax medium, I have barely begun to scratch the surface of what can be done, and will definitely be exploring it further.
It has taken awhile to get used to the drying time of oil, but the benefits of being able to work while the paint is still pliable outweigh the instant gratification of acrylics. It is like working in clay. It feels natural and adds to the organic/instinctive process. When a piece is dry, it can be buffed to a nice sheen. The layers and the textures are the big sell for me. The only negative is that is quite a bit messier than working with acrylics and any rags or paper used during the process need to be placed in a metal container; a very small adjustment for all the benefits.
