I have enjoyed catching up with the art blogs "new year" posts. Many are inspiring and contagious in their excitement for new beginnings, new directions, or just the readiness to get back to the studio and renew the ongoing commitment to the art process. I've found that a lot of artists are choosing a word to focus upon during 2010 instead of a list of heady resolutions. I like the idea and the word, (or directive), "re-imagine" comes to mind. I like the notion of depth or archetypal psychology that imagines creative ideas as living beings and that re-imagining concepts or beliefs can shed light on new perspectives and re-energize our work. Over the holidays, I read Gail Thomas' Healing Pandora which calls upon a renewal of imagination in looking at both the spilled contents and the sealed hope that remains in Pandora's box.

There is a call to listen to the left overs, the left behinds, the "that would never work" chorus. Thomas Edison said: "To invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk!"

The hope of Pandora rests in an unbreakable house where empathy and compassion reside, where everything resistant, chaotic or misunderstood can find a place of "mattering", acceptance, and resolve to mend the pain of separation from soul.
My hope for the new year is to recover/rediscover imagination especially where it seems most unimaginable and lost.

I use the left overs all the time... and these are really nice pieces ...
Good word, Imagination.
Thank you for leaving such a thoughtful thought provoking comment-- I love the Edison quote because I do have a lot of 'junk' in my studio and always looking for more...
you write very well.
Re-imagine, re-discover, re-solve, re-new away! I rather like this chain of thought and the ide of a place of 'mattering'. That everything can be brought find acceptance! Great thoughts for a new year Marie!
