My book find for the month of July was "Remedios Varo/ Unexpected Journeys" by Janet Kaplan. She was a artist from the Andre Breton "school of surrealism", although she is totally new to me. It is such a delight to become acquainted with her masters work. Her canvasses are filled with mythology and interior landscapes that are spactacular in their depth and symbology. Her backgrounds are filled with various layering and texturing tecniques that are beautiful and surprising. My first inclination was to try and paint her portrait. It was the only piece of work that I finished this week. I am pleased with it & am glad to find her in my studio adding to all the good spirits there!
Here is her portrait photo from the book jacket. She was so petite, (elfin) like the magical figures she created. Wikipedia has her biography and photos of her work if you would like to take a peek. Thanks to everyone who stopped by Cinnamon Studio for the Buried Treasure project. I appreciate the comments and those who joined the Followers List. Good company everyone!
